Why Australian Labradoodles are so special |
The Australian Labradoodle is a unique hybrid breed loved by all for its loyal, happy, non-aggressive, curious and clever personality. 98% allergy friendly with no shedding or odours, it was developed in the 1980's when The Guide Dog Association of Australia implemented a breeding and research program for a hypo-allergenic, asthma-friendly Guide Dog. The Australian Labradoodle was developed at Tegan Park and Rutland Manor in Australia and all genuine Australian Labradoodle bloodlines can be traced back to them. The Australian Labradoodle comes in 3 sizes: mini, medium and standard, there are two allergy friendly coat types: fleece and wool. Sociable, smart and affectionate, the Australian Labradoodle has become a wonderful allergy friendly family companion as well as therapy and service dog.

The Australian Labradoodle is NOT the same as a Labradoodle (a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle). The Australian Labradoodle was created by infusing over several generations Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever x Standard Poodle) with 4 other breeds: Irish Water Spaniel, Curly Coat Retriever, American & English Cocker Spaniel. Through selection of the healthiest and best of these breeds with the most desirable traits, consistency of health, temperament, size and coat was achieved in the hybrid known today as the genuine multi-generational 100% Australian Labradoodle. The Australian Labradoodle consistently produces allergy friendly coats and exceptional temperaments. Even though they a non-shedding they still need regular grooming to keep healthy and clean and prevent matting. Moderately active and athletic, Australian Labradoodles love to walk and play and enjoy daily mental stimulation.

There are now many 'doodle' cross breeds available to buy and it is important to know what a genuine Australian Labradoodle is. Other cross breeds cannot guarantee size, temperament and coat of their offspring. Always buy a puppy with a pedigree and that is from fully health tested, multi generational parents. A good breeder will have pedigree and health test certificates for all their breeding dogs and puppies. We have met many people who have purchased expensive puppies with unexpected and undesirable characteristics or genetic health problems so please make sure you are buying a genuine, happy and healthy 100% Australian Labradoodle.
