OUR AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE BREEDING ETHOS
Our carefully planned breeding program is dedicated to the quality of the breed, not quantity. We focus on the health, temperament and breed integrity of our Australian Labradoodles. Our puppies are raised in our home for proper socialization and handling from birth. Our home is adapted for our adult dogs and their puppies to live with us in a loving, healthy and clean environment, providing the foundations for them to grow to their full and wonderful potential.
A great start in life with the Puppy Culture program
The first 8 weeks of a puppy's education is crucial for a happy, confident and well-behaved temperament. For the first 4 weeks we use the 'Puppy Culture' Bio-Sensor (Super Dog) program - special and gentle methods that aim to make the puppies relaxed and not fearful for the rest of their lives. From 4 weeks onwards we offer increased stimulus in small doses, gradually introducing sounds, smells and new situations. When they are ready they begin to interact with our older doodles and join the pack as young dogs. They meet other children and animals and begin learning to walk on a lead. By the time they go to their new homes at 8-9 weeks old the puppies are well on the road to being the best that an Australian Labradoodle can be.
We do not use guardian homes
A guardian home is a host family that has a breeding dog living with them as a family pet whilst ownership of the dog is retained by the breeder. Under this contract the dog moves to the breeders premises for birthing and raising her puppies. Whilst it can be done well, for instance if the dog is 'co-owned' and effectively has 2 homes and 2 families, we do not use guardian homes for any of our doodles present or future. Long term research from the USA shows that anxiety and stress can be passed on to puppies from the mother during and after pregnancy via Epigenetics. When a breeding female is transferred, pregnant, to a new home environment with a new pack (unfamiliar dogs of the breeder) the close bond between her and her own family is broken during this stressful time, this can be very difficult for the dog and her guardian family. Our doodle mothers are in their own home with their family and doodle friends through every stage of mating, pregnancy, birthing and raising her puppies to minimise and take any stress away from her. A stress free mother brings relaxed and stable puppies into the world.
Keeping in touch, support & advice
At Dorset Hills we share the magical journey of getting a puppy from pregnancy and throughout the life of your Australian Labradoodle from us. You will receive weekly videos, photographs and in-depth e-mail updates on the litter from the day of the puppies birth. Update day becomes a much anticipated and exciting day for all the families on a reservation list for one of our litters. Each week you will be informed of every aspect of the Puppy Culture Program that all our puppies follow, along with lots of details about all the activities and progress of the litter. We take time and great care to film as much as we can of the litter in their different environments and adventures with us. Each puppy is assigned a temporary name and given a colour colour so that you can watch them grow and get to know each puppy before choosing day at 6 weeks old. Weekly photoshoots with the puppies allows you to see each puppy individually and to keep the pictures to use in your own record of your puppy as it grows from baby to adult.
As well as keeping you updated about all the protocols of Puppy Culture from birth to 8 weeks in the weekly emails we also give lots of advice about how you can continue to raise and train your puppy to be confident, calm, sociable and polite.
Each litter has its own WhatsApp group along with a combined litter group chat, this is a lovely way for all the families and siblings to share stories and pictures, ask for advice and stay in touch with each other. We love our puppies very much and enjoy staying in touch with their families, visiting them where possible and organising meet up days and play dates for the siblings.
We are always here to help and advise at all stages from puppy to adult.

We do not Early Spay Neuter (ESN)
We do not practice or advocate ESN on young puppies at 7 weeks old. When you buy a puppy from us you enter into a legally binding contract that ensures you will have your puppy spayed/neutered by 12 months old. This follows WALA guidelines and regulations that we strictly adhere to. ESN is a practice widely regarded by 97% of vets as not to be recommended and fortunately most will not surgically remove part of your puppy's endocrine system before it reaches at least 6 months old. Hormones are a crucial part of your puppy's development and long term health. Many recent studies have shown shortened lifespan, increased cancer rates, hip displasia, cruciate ligament tears, atypical cushings disease, cardiac tumours and behavioural issues in dogs early spay/neutered.
The RSPCA practice ESN on puppies as young as 7 weeks old for very different reasons than dog breeders. The prevention of unwanted or unhealthy puppies is absolutely necessary in the UK where millions of dogs are in rescue centers and being euthanized every year and we will not contribute to any animal neglect or abuse that results in unloved or unwanted puppies. Reducing the number of dogs in shelters is an important goal but as important is preventing them from going to a shelter at all. You will not find an Australian Labradoodle in a rescue center due to the high costs of breeding them, the careful selection process of forever families for each puppy and the strict enforcement of spay/neuter by the time they reach sexual maturity.
We support local animal rescue centres and charities and give donations from the sale of each puppy.
